Quick Trip to the Beautiful City of Charleston, SC

I was cursed with a birthday that typically falls one week before Thanksgiving. Growing up, I desperately wanted a summer birthday where I could celebrate at the beach or by the pool.

With the cold weather and preparations for upcoming holidays, I rarely get too excited for the celebration of my birth. This year was a little different. I had a surprise in store for me.

Leaving work a little early on Friday, Matt and I jumped on the road and headed to an "undisclosed" location. The only thing I knew was we were heading south for somewhere with warmer weather and seafood--my dreams were coming true!

For anyone living in Charlotte or somewhere nearby, one of the best quick trips is certainly Charleston, South Carolina. An astonishing historical city with a place for everyone, I was so excited to getaway.

While I expected we would be staying somewhere downtown, Matt surprised me once again with a oceanfront hotel room in Folly Beach.

Please excuse me while I rant and rave about the beautiful sunrise that woke us up on Saturday morning.

We started off our day at The Glass Onion in West Ashley. The shrimp and grits were heaven in my mouth and I definitely recommend their Bloody Mary. I'm not a huge spicy fan and this drink was just right.

We roamed downtown, careful to put quarters in our meter after few hours. One place I always visit while in Charleston is the Market Pavilion Hotel with a rooftop bar. If you want a view to rival all views, you definitely want to check out this spot.

Note to mention that the cocktails are the perfect way to cool off on a hot day. (Can you believe it was 75 degrees in the above picture?! I definitely took advantage of being able to wear my summer clothes again.)

Finishing up the day with a pound of crab legs, mussels, oysters, clams, and crab dip at the Folley Beach Crab Shack... you could say I finally had the summer birthday I had always wanted.

For anyone looking to escape from reality for a few short days, I recommend Charleston and all of its wonders. Ladies, start hinting to your man that you deserve a surprise weekend getaway.

Always happy to have a little bit of downtime before the end of the year craziness.

I managed to catch some pretty cool clips during our time in Charleston with my GoPro and put together a little video. Enjoy!
